A Rough Week

It all started on Sunday morning with my oldest son, Aaron, having a stomach ache. He asked for some Pepto Bismol and was given some. We went to Sunday School and had to leave early due to Aaron's not feeling well. He lay on the sofa all afternoon. He said he was feeling a little better that evening, so I took him and his brother to youth choir practice. He was feeling so bad that we left before church started.
I was awakened Monday morning with Aaron asking to be taken to the emergency room. I knew he must be feeling bad because he never wants to go to the doctor. When we got to the emergency room, he was called immediately to see the nurse. He was taken to a room and the doctor came in. The doctor ordered some blood tests and an x-ray to rule out appendicitis. (He probably already knew that Aaron had appendicitis when he ordered the tests). We waited a while, and the doctor came back and told us Aaron's appendix had to come out at once. I called his Mom and she came to the hospital as fast as she could get there. Other phone calls were made, and both sets of grandparents, my Brother and Sister in law, and our Pastor, Bro. Herrington, came. It was a holiday so the surgeon and surgery crew had to be called in.
They did the surgery and told us all went well, and put Aaron in a room. The surgeon told us they were going to keep him overnight, and he could go home the next day if all went well. We stayed the rest of the day, and his mother refused to go home, so I told her to call us if she needed anything and I went home late that night.
I got a phone call around 3:00 A.M. that Aaron was very ill and they were starting him on nausea medicine. The hospital personnel told us that if the medicine didn't work, Aaron would need a tube in his stomach. Aaron had been on a regular diet, and they changed it to a liquid diet. I went over there early Tuesday morning, and Aaron was asleep. I had Physical Therapy so I went over to the therapy gym, which is in the hospital. When I got back, Aaron was still asleep, and seemed to be resting well. He woke up for breakfast, but it didn't do him any good. He couldn't even take a sip of water without being sick.
That went on all day, and again his mom wanted to stay overnight with him, so I went home late that night. I got a phone call around 4:00 A.M. that Aaron was very ill again. They put him on a very strong nausea medicine. The medicine made him sleep, but his nausea got better. They told him nothing by mouth, not even a sip of water or a piece of ice. He had a rough day Wednesday, but it was a little better than the day before. Thursday morning I went over there early as I did the day before. Aaron had a better day, but still nothing by mouth. His mom disobeyed the doctors orders and let him have some water, it didn't make him sick. The doctor let him have some water, and told him to walk as much as he could. He said if Aaron would walk, they would feed him. I had an appointment with my neurosurgeon on Friday. After my appointment, I went back to the hospital and found Aaron feeling much better. He had to stay most of the day. The doctor let him go home late Friday evening. He went home with his mom, who has been taking good care of him. We are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and things are pretty much back to normal.
